hell yeah! fuck HP, my gf had problems, and now i'm having issues with my wireless card. but i just rewired the modem and router in the apartment to plug directly into the laptop, temporary fix.

My wife's looking at getting a netbook for writing papers and checking email on campus. Any suggestions for brands that're good?

i heard netbooks are a rip off. they give you this "starter" OS, which only allows a certain number of programs to be installed, and it's really really locked, like a phone from verizon. I was looking around on best buy's site, and reading reviews. From what I saw, you can get a nice one for around 300-330, i believe the brand I was looking at was asus, wee pc, or something like that. I don't know, but they are really strictly for those two things. And I don't think some let you install office, they give you a generic office, a real pain.

Well, that's Windows 7 Starter that does the limitations. And yeah, I've heard nothing good about it. Some netbooks also come with Windows XP, but that's something like 8 years old now, so I'm reluctant. What I'll probably end up doing is installing a regular version of Windows 7 on it, maybe buy some extra memory. Of course, by that point, it'll cost almost as much as a regular laptop... heh.

it'll cost the same, but be way more mini. And yeah, the fact that the netbooks don't come with windows vista just proves how poor of an OS it really was. You can always install some sort of linux on there. and, I'd double check to see if the ram is upgradeable, because you know there are limits on how much ram certain computers will allow, which is stupid.
